Training our hearts.

David and I are on this journey of serving within the ranks of The Salvation Army. We are learning so much. We have a lot on our hearts, and that includes you. We will be sharing those things through different mediums. We've been gathering our inspiration and our resources, drawing near to God and now we are ready to spill the beans. During my schooling/training, I've been given assignments that are creative expressions of what we are learning or developing. This is good timing as it's the first year that cadets in this school are expected to complete creative assignments, and I'm thriving in it. It excites me. I've  been able to let go of all internal inhibitions and excuses for not letting my light shine before men for the Glory of God. So having these opportunities for creative expression is like a bonus power you find in a game, right? Think mushrooms in Mario. It's very cool. He has given me talents and gifts and a soul and a song. Now we sing. I'm lo...

Keeping Hope

Hey guys, We hope this entry finds you in a posture of hope. As President Snow put it in The Hunger Games series, "Hope is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective. A lot of hope is dangerous." What he knew, and what we all felt when we heard him speak those words, was the truth of this claim. Many of them hoped for prosperity amid poverty. Many of them hoped that for a great evil to cease and many more simply hoped that the sickness would pass, so they held on. Many of us may feel like we're living that last one out. That's because we are. Television and cinema always kept the idea of a pandemic in the back of ou...

Things take time.

HelIo. Matt Here.    I ask my self sometimes why I even write these. Most of the time it is because I want to start something regularly, but the problem is with the consistency in which things related to this blog happen. On Our Hearts has, for the most part, only been two guys with limited resources and a plethora of distractions.    One of those distractions is being involved in training at the College for Officership Training in The Salvation Army. This means that we will be commissioned and ordained to serve in the Salvation Army as officers, pastors, accountants, statisticians, small group leaders, preachers, counselors, community specialist, ecumenical agents, worship leaders, and more. If it sounds crazy, that's because it is.    I've only understood myself to be called towards one of those. It's where my gifts, my talents, and my passions are. I also believe that it can help the world and that the world needs it, even if in small batches....
